Atanásio Mtumuke

Atanásio Salvador Mtumuke , or Atanásio Mtumuke for short (sometimes also Ntumuke), (* in Mueda District , Cabo Delgado Province , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican army general, politician ( FRELIMO ) and Minister of Defense in the Nyusi cabinet since January 19, 2015 .

Mtumuke is an experienced fighter during the colonial war against Portuguese rule and belonged to the Samora Machel district . After Mozambique gained independence, Mtumuke was promoted to the Mozambican army. In 1996, President Joaquim Chissano appointed him inspector general of the army.

After Filipe Nyusi was elected president, he appointed Mtumuke as the new defense minister in his cabinet. Mtumuke belongs to President Nyusi's intimate circle, who is from the same region.

According to the newspaper Verdade , numerous top members of FRELIMO are said to have built up an extensive company network in the resource and transport sector in northern Mozambique. Mtumuke is also involved in this network; he is a partner in Madeiras de Machaze and Quionga Energia SA
