Respiratory protection pillow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The respiratory protection cushion ( Safe Breathe Pad ) is an aid in respiratory protection to prevent the inhalation of gases and particles that can arise or are released in a fire .

The respiratory protection cushion is roughly the size of a cigarette packet and weighs around 20 grams. Due to its small dimensions, it can be carried with you at all times. In the event of danger from smoke gases or particles, you can press the respiratory protection cushion over your mouth like a sponge. To do this, you close your nose with your thumb and index finger and breathe exclusively through your mouth. Organic constituents of the flue gas, such as hydrogen cyanide , sulfur dioxide , but also smoke particles can be filtered out of the breathing air with the help of the multilayer activated carbon filter. The operating time depends on the gas concentration.

If there is a lack of oxygen in the breathing air, the breathing protection cushion does not offer any protection, and the activated carbon filter is also ineffective against carbon monoxide poisoning . As an escape helper in a precarious situation, it can still be life-saving. At the ideas, inventions and innovations exhibition in 2001 in Nuremberg, the invention was awarded the gold medal and the special award from the Nuremberg exhibition company AFAG.
