The Athletic Park was a stadium in the New Zealand capital of Wellington , mainly for rugby union was used games. It was located in the Newtown district and was known for its steep standing stands, which were exposed to the violent gusts of wind that often occur there. The audience capacity was last around 39,000.

During the 1990s, the stadium was slowly left to decay as maintenance costs continued to rise and the facility no longer met the demands of modern sport. The last rugby game, an encounter between Wellington and Otago , took place on October 10, 1999. A little later the stadium was torn down; the new Wellington Regional Stadium was built as a replacement . Today there is a senior housing estate on the former stadium area.
