The Atomic Bomb Museum Nagasaki ( Japanese 長崎原爆資料館 , Nagasaki Genbaku Shiryokan ; English Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum ) is a peace museum to commemorate and document the atomic bombing of Nagasaki . The museum is located in the Peace Park of Nagasaki .
History and description
The predecessor of today's museum was the Nagasaki International Culture Hall , which opened in 1955 . This building was demolished in 1995 and a new museum building was built. The opening of the new museum building at its current location in Friedenspark took place in April 1996.
In the permanent exhibition, the events of August 9, 1945 are dealt with through various objects, photographs, models and exhibition texts. The exhibition also deals with the Hibakusha , the reconstruction after 1945 and the culture of remembrance .
