The street Auf der Altstadt is located in the Lower Saxony city of Lüneburg .
location
The road runs from northeast to southwest through the old town. It begins at Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Platz and ends at the intersection of Neue Sülze , Grapengießerstraße and Salzstraße . From the street the Untere Ohlingerstraße goes in the west and the Obere Ohlingerstraße and the street Auf der Rübekuhle on the east side. The length of the street is about 230 meters. From the intersection of Untere Ohlingerstraße and Obere Ohlingerstraße, the street is a one-way street. The house numbering starts at the corner of Neue Sülze, Grapengieserstraße and Salzstraße on the northern corner and runs back in a horseshoe to the confluence of the street Auf dem Rübekuhle. The following houses no longer belong to the street Auf der Altstadt.
history
Before the 16th century the street was called Judenstraße (Platea iudeorum). The Jews settled here until the 15th century, so two synagogues and a Jewish school can be located in the street.
