Valentin Riemer

Valentin Riemer (born February 20, 1582 in Hirschberg , Principality of Schweidnitz-Jauer , † April 21, 1635 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Riemer's father was Valentin Riemer of the same name. He came from Hirschberg, had studied from May 17, 1567 at the University of Heidelberg and on January 17, 1572 at the University of Wittenberg, was rector of the city school in Hirschberg in 1573 and a syndic there in 1576. However, before the birth of his son, he passed away. The son Valentin Riemer attended school in Hirschberg and the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau. In 1603 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he obtained the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. He then completed legal studies, for which he frequented the University of Marburg and the University of Gießen from 1605 . After another stay in Leipzig, he moved to the University of Jena in the winter semester of 1613 , where he received his doctorate in law on April 5, 1614.

Afterwards he took part in the lecture business of the Salana, became professor of history and poetry on June 6, 1618 and professor of law in 1619. He was also an associate assessor and later a full assessor at the court. Riemer also took part in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. He was dean of the law faculty several times and in the summer semesters 1624 and 1634 rector of the alma mater . He died of a raging fever. His body was buried in the Jena Collegiate Church, where a tombstone was erected for him, which was lost in a bomb attack in February.

Riemer married on July 20, 1614 in Altenburg with Susanna Elisabeth Wex († 1635), the daughter of the Saxon Altenburg chancellor Johannes Wex (* 1552 in Jena; † March 1, 1633 in Altenburg) and his third wife Susanne Elisabeth Büchner (* October 6, 1568 in Altenburg; † November 20, 1614 ibid.). Johann Valentin Riemer (* Jena) SS 1619 Uni is known from the children of this marriage. Jena, Johann Gottfried Riemer (* Jena) SS 1634 Uni. Jena and the later mayor of Naumburg Johann Adolph Riemer (* Jena 1633; † 1690 in Naumburg).
