Gottfried Fibig

Gottfried Fibig also: Fiebing, Fiebig , (born October 13, 1612 in Breslau ; † May 23, 1646 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Gottfried was born the son of the archdeacon of the same name, Gottfried Fibig (* 1583 in Pitschen; † October 11, 1613 in Breslau) and his wife Rosina Trage. He attended the Elisabet Gymnasium in his hometown, where the future rector Elias Major (1588–1669) was his formative teacher. In 1630 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he first completed a degree in philosophy. Since Leipzig was besieged during the Thirty Years' War, he moved to the University of Jena in September 1631 . Here he began legal studies and received his doctorate on September 22, 1636 as a doctor of law. From September 6, 1636 he worked as an attorney at the court and took part in the lectures at the Jena University. Thereupon he became on September 23, 1640 Professor of Pandekenrechts in Jena. As such, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the Salana. He was dean of the Faculty of Law a few times and, in the winter semester of 1645, rector of the Alma Mater .

Fibig married Katharina Hofmann in 1642, the daughter of Johannes Hofmann and Catharina Breune. The daughter Anna Rosina Fibig (born April 6, 1643 in Jena) and the son Johann Gottfried Fibig (born March 14, 1644 in Jena) come from the marriage. His widow married Statius Harbordt von Windheim for the second time.
