Mietek Pemper Prize of the University of Augsburg for reconciliation and international understanding

The Mietek Pemper Prize of the University of Augsburg for reconciliation and international understanding is awarded to personalities who have made special contributions to the reconciliation of peoples, ethnic groups and religious communities through their life's work. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and is awarded every two years by the University of Augsburg . The award ceremony takes place in the Golden Hall of Augsburg City Hall.

In 2006, the entrepreneur Georg Haindl decided to donate an Augsburg University Prize for Reconciliation and International Understanding in order to promote Augsburg's reputation as a city of peace and the university. At the same time, people should be honored who have risked their lives for reconciliation and international understanding. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2007. After the death of the jury member and honorary citizen of the city of Augsburg and the University of Mietek Pemper , the prize was named after him in recognition of his lifetime achievement.

The jury members include the award sponsor Georg Haindl, the Bavarian Minister of Science, the Lord Mayor of Augsburg and the President of the University of Augsburg. Mietek Pemper was originally also a member of the jury. After his death in 2011, the rabbi of the Jewish community in Augsburg-Swabia took his place.
