Augusta Schmidt

Augusta Schmidt (* around 1800 in Berlin ; † after 1831) was a German portrait and genre painter.

Life

Little is known about Augusta Schmidt today. As a young woman she came to Paris to be trained as a student of the history and portrait painter Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse and his wife. In 1827 Schmidt was represented with two portraits at the Paris Salon and lived at 59 Rue Saint-André-des-arts. It is not known whether Augusta Schmidt stayed longer in the French capital or later returned to Germany.
