Karl Christian Schmidt

Karl Christian Schmidt (born March 24, 1808 in Stuttgart ; † November 15, 1892 ibid) was a German history and portrait painter and lithographer .

Life

Schmidt was the son of a master weaver. Before 1826 he was a student of Johann Gotthard von Müller in Stuttgart, between 1826 and 1830 he took lessons in portrait painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Peter von Cornelius . Around 1834/35 he was a student of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in Paris, after 1835 he was a teacher of shadow theory and perspective at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart.
