The yield is a measure of the yield, especially in metal production and processing.

In the individual processes, the input material is processed and waste is generated. During machining , chips are generated, which means that the end product has less mass than the input material.

The output is also a process parameter for a manufacturing process, with which different processes can be compared with one another. In steel production, the output in ingot casting is around 80% compared to continuous casting with an output significantly better than 95%.

Since every waste in a production step is associated with costs, attempts are generally made to increase the output.
