The current building, which Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn had built in 1617, was built in the course of the Counter-Reformation . The church was renovated in the 18th century. Several wayside shrines from different centuries have been preserved in the village, testifying to the popular piety of earlier times.
