Excursion location

Excursion location or state-recognized excursion location refers to a municipality or part of a municipality that demonstrates a special importance for tourism, prominent sights or special sports and leisure offers, appropriate facilities promoting tourism and a high number of day and overnight guests.

In Germany , recognition as a state-recognized excursion destination is carried out by the responsible ministry of the respective federal state or by the offices for regional state development. The recognition can also refer to a municipality or part of a municipality.

The award is intended to promote an increase in tourist attractiveness. They allow retailers in Lower Saxony, for example, to extend their opening times to up to 40 Sundays per year in accordance with the Lower Saxony Law on Shop Opening and Sales Hours (NLöffVZG) . This applies in particular to goods for immediate consumption, fresh fruit, tobacco products, flowers, newspapers and an assortment that is primarily geared towards tourism.

The 40 Sundays start on March 15th and last until December 31st. Holidays are excluded. The corresponding shops are open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
