Under edition (English Output ) is understood in the computer science what a program based on internal calculations on an output device (for example, screen or printer ), an interface or a data storage ( file outputs). So the output is the opposite of the input .

The terms input , processing and output are fundamental to electronic data processing and are referred to as the EVA principle .

All common programming languages define basic input and output media for the standard data streams , which are often called standard input ("STDIN", usually from the keyboard), standard output ("STDOUT", usually on the screen) and error output ("STDERR", usually also on the screen) - error messages can also be an output, as they provide information about why the program cannot run or the data processing is not valid.
