Auspicantibus nobis

With the Apostolic Constitution Auspicantibus nobis of January 6, 1929, Pope Pius XI. on the occasion of his 50th priest jubilee ( ordination on December 20, 1879) an extraordinary jubilee year.

After describing his fulfilled time as a priest, he, like his predecessor Leo XIII. it did, to take this anniversary as an opportunity to declare an extraordinary anniversary year. He called on all believers to devote a great deal of space to deepening their faith by the end of 1929 . Under precisely prescribed conditions, indulgences could be given to the faithful , for this purpose a visit to the basilicas of Lateran , Saint Peter and Santa Maria Maggiore as well as at least a two-day fast , the making of confession , absolution , participation in the Eucharist and alms were prescribed. He prescribed local exemptions for believers who were unable to visit the Holy City of Rome so that indulgences could be granted.
