Auspicius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to legend, Auspicius was an early bishop of Trier . He is said to have died around 130 under Emperor Hadrian . As a saint , his feast day is July 8th . He is said to have been the fourth bishop of the city and successor to Maternus , who, however, only lived at the beginning of the 4th century and is considered his actual successor Agritius . In the 2nd century there is still no evidence of a diocese in Trier, so that a later confusion with Bishop Auspicius of Toul from the 5th century, whose feast day is also July 8th, is obvious.
