Air stone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Air stones (often also called air stones ) are used in aquaristics to set water in motion and to conduct oxygen into the aquarium . The air stone is connected to an electric air pump via an air hose and is located in the aquarium. The air stone is attached to an aquarium pane with a suction device so that it does not reach the surface of the water.

If an aquarium is connected to carbon dioxide fertilization (CO 2 fertilization), the use of an air stone should not be used, as the increased surface movement drives the CO 2 out of the water, which reduces the effect of the fertilization.
