Australian Mathematical Society
The Australian Mathematical Society (Aust MS) is the national Australian mathematical society.
It was founded in 1956 according to plans that began in 1952. Founding members included Thomas Gerald Room and George Szekeres . The seat is the Australian National University .
The Applied Mathematics section is represented in it by ANZIAM (Australia and New Zealand Industrial and Applied Mathematics).
The Society gives the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society (JAustMS, founded in 1959, in two series A and B, Part A - Pure Mathematics and Statistics - continues today as Journal AustMS), the ANZIAM Journal (previously Series B of JAustMS, Applied Mathematics), the Bulletin of the AustMS, and the Gazette of the Australian Mathematical Society.
Since 1981 it has awarded the Australian Mathematical Society Medal annually for outstanding research achievements of its members (age up to 40 years) . It is awarded at the company's annual meeting. Since 2001 it has awarded the George Szekeres Medal every two years (even-numbered years, for outstanding work over the past 15 years) and also the ANZIAM Medal , the Mahler Lectureship , the Bernhard Neumann Prize and the JH Michell Medal .
The society is also affiliated with the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT), the Statistical Society of Australian Inc. (SSAI) and the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) founded in 2002.
