Autogenous

Autogen stands for originating from itself . The term, widely used from biology to technology, is made up of the ancient Greek words αὐτό (auto) = automatic and γένεσις, (genesis) = genesis , emergence.

Derived terms in technology

• The autogenous welding by extreme heating of a metal got its name because the gas flame shields the weld pool (molten metal) from the surrounding air.
• Also at autogenous flame-cutting - the thermal cutting of steel - takes the attribute "autogenously" on the operation without substances from outside reference.
