Automatic Volume Limiter System

The Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) is an electronic volume limiter for portable devices that i. d. Usually used with headphones or earphones. AVLS serves to protect the hearing from damage caused by different recording volumes.

To protect your hearing, the output volume at the headphone output is limited in the basic setting of a device with AVLS, even if the volume control is set to the maximum deflection. If the user still wants to increase the volume, he must first switch off the AVLS manually. This system is designed to protect against hearing damage. The system has been marketed under this name since the first half of the 1990s.

AVLS becomes v. a. Used in portable devices such as minidisc players (e.g. from Sony or Aiwa ) and in Walkmans .
