Cité de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, France

A car museum (automobile museum) is a museum in which exhibits on the subject of automobiles are shown.

There are over a hundred such museums in German-speaking countries alone. Many of them show a collection of automobiles, often with a specific focus, e.g. B. Vehicles from a specific manufacturer. However, some are also essentially dedicated to the history of technology . The demarcation from other museums, especially technology and transport museumsis not always clearly possible in museums that do not only show cars. The car museums include both large public museums with fixed opening times and small private collections, some of which are only open by appointment. As with other types of museums, the carriers are different, although there are some manufacturers who run their own museums ( Fiat , Audi , Mercedes-Benz , Porsche , VW , BMW , Lamborghini , Chrysler, etc.)

In addition to the special car museums, there are also tractor museums and numerous more general transport museums .
