content
After the events of the television series and the end of the Hundred Years War, the world is changing: progress meets tradition. Avatar Aang is forced to rethink his role and the definition of harmony that has been taught him. The new Fire Lord Zuko, meanwhile, has problems with not being accepted by some of his subjects and fears that he will develop into a monster over time. He also wants to finally find out what happened to his mother after her exile. Meanwhile, Toph opens a metal beating school in the former Yu Dao colony. All of this also leads to tension within Team Avatar, which rarely comes together completely. The young people soon realized that there were still many problems after the war.
The promise
After the war, the Fire Nation decides to dissolve its colonies. Zuko asks Aang to kill him in case he turns into a monster. When the city of Yu Dao refuses, another war threatens. While the Fire Nation under Zuko protects the city, Aang and the Earth Kingdom want to force it. Aang also feels compelled to keep his promise and kill Zuko. A great battle ensues in which Aang realizes that the nations cannot simply be separated. He convinces the Earth King that the colonies belong neither to the Fire Nation nor to the Earth Kingdom, but that something new should emerge from them.
As a subplot, Toph opens a metal taming academy and defends it against firebenders.
The search
Zuko signs a kind of truce with Azula and releases her from the asylum to search for her mother. However, Azula first visits Ozai in prison, who gives her a letter from her mother to her former fiancé Ikem. Together with his friends and Azula, Zuko sets out to find Ursa.
Azula has hallucinations of her mother and attacks the environment several times for no reason. In doing so, she provokes a wolf spirit that attacks the group. After the attack, Zuko finds the letter and learns of his parentage: his father is not Ozai, but Ikem. After the group reached the hometown of Ursa, they learned there that Ikem had emigrated to the valley of oblivion, has not been seen since then and that Ursa would have followed him there after their exile. In the valley of oblivion they meet the siblings Misa and Rufa who are looking for the mother of faces. Aang agrees to help and seeks them out in the spirit world.
