history

Law No. 2089 of 1887 determined the city limits of Buenos Aires. Article six stipulated the construction of a road along the city limits. For a straight route, land was exchanged between the city and the province of Buenos Aires.

The new street was named after José María Paz and designed by Pascual Palazzo. The construction was carried out by José María Zaballa Carbó. The Avenida General Paz was the first expressway in the country. Initially, the Avenida had four lanes, two in each direction. Work began on June 8, 1937 and completed on July 5, 1941. In the 1970s, the roundabout on Avenida del Libertador was replaced by a four-leaf junction.

In 1996 the Avenida was modernized and expanded to three lanes in each direction.
