Aventurian messenger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aventurian Bote (also called The Bote by the players ) is a magazine for the role-playing game Das Schwarze Auge (DSA). The course of Aventurian history is documented in the style of a newspaper. The editors from the game team - formerly Schmidt Spiele , later Fantasy Productions , today Ulisses Spiele - are supported by committed players who contribute their own articles. The messenger is largely written from the perspective of the inhabitants of the fantasy world of Aventuria . The magazine is currently published every two months with six A3 pages.

content

The aim of the Aventurian Messenger is to make the game world appear more alive to the player than would be possible with the mere information in the adventures. In addition, the messenger also contains bug fixes for DSA products and rule suggestions or alternative rules. Last but not least, the classifieds section of the messenger served as an important message board and contact option for DSA players - especially before the general spread of the Internet. The Aventurian Messenger was used by the DSA editorial team in several campaigns to actively recruit creative fans for part-time writing activities.

Noteworthy is the Aventurian Messenger 37, which - after a coup in Aventurian historiography - appeared as a satire and was written in the style of tabloid newspapers .

Since the Bote 100 the content-related weight shifted more and more from the information about the Aventurian history to general texts for game leaders , mostly suggestions for playing, background descriptions or short adventure scenarios .

publication

The first edition of the Aventurian Messenger appeared in 1985 as a four-page publication in DIN A3 format, 25,000 copies were distributed free of charge. After that, the messenger appeared as a regular, subscribable magazine for a nominal fee. Printing was now in A4 format. The respective length varied over the years between 16 and 52 pages (anniversary edition 100, published in 2003). The anniversary edition 50 (and the following edition 51) of the originally printed Bote in black and white contained individual color pages. It is published roughly every two months.

Since Das Schwarze Auge developed into a successful product line and its player base was constantly expanding, the fans who joined later wanted to have access to earlier editions of the Aventurian Messenger. That is why the publisher published a booklet in 1989 under the name Kleinodien , which contained the most important articles from the first 20 issues of the magazine in a revised form. Over time there was also a high demand among fans for later editions of the Aventurian Messenger. That is why the series Aventurian Archive was conceived, in which old articles from the Aventurian Messenger are edited and republished. Issue 1 appeared in early 2001 and contained articles from Aventurian Messengers 23-36. Issue 2 appeared at the end of 2001 and comprised Boten 37-43, Issue 3 appeared after a long interruption in early 2005 (Boten 44-54), Issue 4 appeared in late summer 2006 (Boten 55-61), Issue 5 in December 2007.
