Avibras X-40

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Avibras X-40 is a Brazilian multiple rocket launcher .

The X-40 developed by Avibras is the predecessor of the ASTROS-2 turret system. Three launch rails for single-stage solid rocket rockets were installed on the chassis of an X1A1 tank. The vehicle was light and manoeuvrable and could therefore be used well in the difficult jungle environment. The rocket had a caliber of 300 mm and weighed 645 kg. The disadvantage was that the X-40 only had three launch rails and the reloading process was rather tedious due to the weight of the rocket.

When firing, support struts were lowered at the front and rear to give the starter a better stand.

X-40 was used extensively to test the effectiveness and use of artillery missiles. The Astros 2 system was developed from the X-40, which was finally replaced by this system in the 1990s.
