Avocent Corporation ( NASDAQ : AVCT) is an IT infrastructure manufacturer headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama . Avocent was formed in 2000 through the merger of the world's two largest KVM switch manufacturers, Apex and Cybex Computer Products Corporation . In December 2008 the company had more than 1,800 employees worldwide, 45 of them in Germany , mainly in Ismaning . Since December 2009 Avocent has been owned by Emerson Electric Corporation USA .

It is also worth mentioning that the then largest German KVM manufacturer and inventor of KVM-over-IP technology, Polycon , was bought by Cybex at the end of the 1990s and thus also merged into Avocent.
