Burkard Zapff

Burkard Maria Zapff (born January 20, 1960 in Würzburg ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and Old Testament scholar .

Life

After graduating from high school in Würzburg, Zapff studied at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Since 1980 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Markomannia Würzburg in the CV . In 1981 he received a scholarship from the Cusanuswerk . In 1981/1982 he studied at the theological faculty of the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD . In 1985 he graduated as a graduate theologian in Würzburg. He was ordained a priest on February 14, 1987 and served as a chaplain . From 1990 to 1994 he was Paul-Werner Scheele's secretary and vicar . In 1994 he was in Würzburg with a thesis on the editorial history of the book of Isaiah doctorate . After a short teaching post he studied ancient oriental languages at the Pontificio Istituto Biblico in Rome from 1995 to 1996 . In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . From 1997 to 2001 he worked as a private lecturer for Old Testament at the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg.

In 2001 he received a call to the chair of Old Testament Studies of the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt . Zapff is the editor of the Eichstätter university speeches and initiator of the Eichstätter lecture series together with Stephan E. Müller (Chair for Moral Theology) and Erwin Möde (Chair for Christian Spirituality and Homiletics). From 2011 to 2013, Zapff held the office of Dean of the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.

Zapf's teaching and research focuses on the adaptation of Greek thought in the Old Testament as well as prophetic literacy .

Burkard Zapff is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land and is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1992 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Giuseppe Cardinal Caprio and invested on October 3, 1992 by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . Zapff is an officer of the Papal Lay Order. Until 2012 he was prior of the Eichstätt Commandery.
