Stephan E. Muller

Stephan Ernst Müller (born February 28, 1950 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Catholic theologian and emeritus professor of moral theology .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen , the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , Müller was ordained a priest in 1975 .

He was from 1975 to 1977 as a chaplain in casting as well as from 1977 to 1982 as a teacher in Bad Nauheim operates. In addition, he was sub-rain at the Mainz seminary from 1982 to 1987 .

In 2005 he was invested in the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and has been Prior of the Eichstätt Commandery since 2012, succeeding Burkard Zapff .

Scientific career

In 1982 Müller received his doctorate from the University of Mainz with a thesis on "Personal and social development of conscience in adolescence". From 1988 to 1989 he gave lectures in moral theology at the Episcopal Seminary for Church Pastoral and Religious Education in Mainz. From the beginning of 1995 until his habilitation in 1996 on the subject of "Crisis Ethics of Marriage ", he taught moral theology at the Philosophical-Theological Studies in Erfurt .

After he represented the chair for moral theology at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Würzburg from 1996 to 1999 , he was appointed professor for moral theology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in 1999 .

For several years he has been organizing the Eichstätter lecture series on theological topics with Erwin Möde .

Müller retired in 2015.

Focus

Müller's teaching focuses on the ethics of inter-sex relationships, responsibility for human life ( bioethics ) and general moral theology.

The main focus of research is in particular relationship ethics , sexual morality , moral psychology , virtue ethics, as well as suicide research and questions of contemporary spirituality .
