Avonius Saturninus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Avonius Saturninus was a member of the Roman knighthood ( eques ) living in the 2nd century AD .

A military diploma proves that in 179 AD he was commander (presumably with the rank of tribune ) of the Cohors III Campestris , which at that time was stationed in the province of Dacia superior . Since the formula cui praefuit is used in the diploma , Saturninus was no longer in charge of the cohort at the time when the list of soldiers to be released was drawn up. His successor was not yet known either.
