Axocoel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The axocoel (from Greek axon = 'axis' and Greek koilos = 'hollow') denotes a section of the coelom in echinoderms . It is the part that develops from the Protocoel , i.e. the uppermost section of the Coelom. It is created in pairs in a larval manner, with the left axocoel developing into a channel between the hydrocoel and the madrepore plate . The right axocoel is reduced to a small dorsal bubble.
