The somatocoel describes a section of the coelom in echinoderms . It is the part that develops from the metacoel , i.e. the lower section of the coelom. It is laid out in pairs in a larval manner and as a secondary body cavity lies around the intestine of the animals, which it holds in position with the coelom wall in the form of mesenteries .
