Bâton français

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bâton français , French for "French staff", is a French stick fighting style, probably a variety of the English quarterstaff . The techniques are, like other European martial arts with the long stick, strongly borrowed from the techniques of the long sword. Bâton français is comparable to the English Quarterstaff and the Halben Stange of the German school, but above all to the Portuguese Jogo do pau , the Spanish Juego del Palo and the Italian schiera di bastone .

Bâton was systematized in the 19th century and, like La Canne, is one of the disciplines associated with boxe française ( Savate ).
