A bow milling machine, also known as a bow milling cutter , is a watchmaker's tool for processing pocket watch bows .

description

The U-shaped milling machine has a number of milling cutters of various sizes that are set in a rotating motion by means of a crank. There are two forms of milling machines:

  • In the case of the turret U-type milling machine, only the milling cutter set for use rotates.
  • In the straight-line U-shaped milling machine , all cutters rotate because they are in engagement with the crank.

function

With the strap milling machine pocket watch straps are at their ends to match the strap lining in the counterpart of the pocket milled . For this purpose, the device is clamped in the vice and the correct milling cutter size is set. Then one end of the bracket is clamped into the corresponding milling cutter using a retaining clip . By turning the crank, the pocket watch bow is milled down to the correct size. In addition, the cylinder milling cutters can be used to bring the holes in the counterpart to the correct size.
