Citizenship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Citizenship is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 295). The work was performed for the first time on February 7, 1865 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The waltz was written for the citizens' ball during Mardi Gras in 1865 and was premiered there in the presence of the imperial couple. The waltz itself is not one of the composer's great masterpieces. As a result, the work disappeared from the concert schedule. This was also due to the large number of Strauss' compositions in those years, which displaced each other from the concert plans. Occasionally, however, it is still performed.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 56 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
