Bürtel (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bürtel , also known as bundle , was an Austrian measure of volume and was used as a measure of wood.

Thin branches and twigs (thick sticks) were tied into a pebble 30 or 36 inches long . If the wood was split, 5 pieces were calculated for a Bürtel. Here, however, the relationship to the pound and the fathom was indefinite.

  • 240 Bürtel corresponded to the volume of 2 fathoms of wood
  • 30 Bürtel = 1 Schilling (piece measure)
    • 8 shillings = 1 pound (piece measure)
