BAX ranking

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BAX ranking list has been the ranking list for players in all disciplines in the German Badminton Association (DBV) since January 1, 2006 . BAX stands for Badminton Index .

Calculation system

The ranking list is calculated on the basis of the game results (victory or defeat) that the recorded players achieve in direct encounters with one another and therefore allows statements about the competitive strength of these players. The ranking points obtained previously depended on the round in which a player was eliminated from a tournament, which in turn was in many cases dependent on the luck of the draw.

When calculating the BAX index, the strength of the opponent determines the points scored.

The statistical standard normal distribution forms the basis of the system. BAX differences are converted into profit expectations and profit expectations are converted into BAX differences. An individual BAX value is calculated from the successes achieved and the sum of the profit expectations.

The BAX values range from around 300 (beginners) to around 800 (top players). Compared to a division according to school grades, the scale is 100 times more refined.

Calculation basis

All leagues and tournaments recorded by turnier.de are evaluated and thus calculated , from the district class to the 1st Bundesliga, from district rankings to German championships, adults and youngsters.

A BAX is calculated separately for each player for singles, doubles and mixed. This means that there are a total of 6 lists: DE, HE, DD, HD, XD (women), XD (men).

The BAX values of the previous season are always used to calculate a BAX. This means that although a player can read his BAX development in the course of a season, the respective change is also calculated and shown but not yet credited to an opponent. This ensures that the order of the calculation and thus the order of the opponents, at least for one season, is irrelevant.

Ranking lists (club, national association, group, DBV) are calculated according to the season and are only kept for the players who are active in the season.

Update

The calculations are done every few months.

Other ranking lists in German badminton

In addition to BAX, there are other systems for calculating rankings:

  • BADRAT: (an abbreviation for Bad Minton Rat ing) Rating of the players in some German leagues based on the ELO system
  • MADU (an abbreviation for Ma rk You stin) Rating of most German badminton players and the international top players based on the results achieved in the games points.
  • PBR: (an abbreviation for P oint B ased R ating) Rating of all German and Swiss badminton players as well as the top international players based on the points scored in the games.
