The BFW-1 Sperber was an aircraft produced by the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW).

history

The construction of the Sperber was based on the Udet U 12b . Motorized with a Siemens-Halske Sh 12 with 125 hp, the two-seater originally developed as a training aircraft was the BFW's first in-house design. The only model aircraft that was built of this type was flown at the German Aviation Research Institute (DVL) from 1927 ( WerkNr. 351, D-1315). In February 1928, the aircraft was bought by Alexander von Bismarck , who used this machine in aerobatics . In October 1929, Prince Eugen von Schaumburg-Lippe took over the two-seater school machine. The BFW-1 was still flown until August 1931, from then on its whereabouts are unknown.
