The BGSW inpatient further treatment in Germany is an inpatient rehabilitation measure at the expense of the statutory accident insurance in accordance with Section 34 of Book 7 of the Social Code . It is part of the "Special Healing Procedure" for serious injuries and may be initiated after the acute treatment of occupational accidents . The acute treatment is often carried out in one of the professional association accident clinics .

BGSW is carried out in around 150 special rehabilitation clinics that have concluded contracts with the regional associations of commercial accident insurance. Around 15,000 BGSW procedures are carried out annually, especially after severe head injuries , amputations and multiple trauma .

The aim of the BGSW is to regain the ability of the accident insured person to work as fully as possible in their traditional occupation and thus to avoid or reduce possible disability .
