Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla
The Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla ( BIACS ) is an international biennial for contemporary art that has been taking place in Seville since 2004 .
history
The first Seville Art Biennial ( BIACS1 ) took place from October to December 2004 under the title La alegría de mis sueños (“The joy of my dreams”). The exhibition was curated by Harald Szeemann and had around 40,000 visitors. Works by over 60 artists were exhibited. At the same time as the art exhibition, a cultural biennial entitled Hospitalidad y Tolerancia (“Hospitality and Tolerance”) took place, in which performance, theater and music were staged and films were shown.
The second art biennial in Seville ( BIACS2 ) took place from October 2006 to January 2007 under the title Lo Desacogedor - Escenas Fantasmas en la Sociedad Global (“The Uncomfortable - Phantom Scenes in Global Society”) and was curated by Okwui Enwezor . About 90 artists and art groups took part in the exhibition.
The third art biennial ( BIACS3 ) took place from October 2008 to January 2009 under the title youniverse and was curated by Peter Weibel . Works by more than 150 artists were shown in the exhibition. As in previous years, the main exhibition venue was the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in the former monastery of La Cartuja , but also in other places in Seville and in the Alhambra .
