Past and future

BKK Aktiv emerged from the merger of several company health insurance funds: BKK Krupp Hoesch Stahl AG (Bochum), BKK Opel (Rüsselsheim) and BKK AEG Hausgeräte (Nuremberg). These predecessor funds, in turn, can look back on a long history - for example, BKK Krupp Hoesch Stahl AG has its roots in the health insurance company of the "Mayer and Kühne Gußstahlfabrik", which was founded in 1854.

On July 1, 2009, BKK Aktiv merged with BKK VOR ORT (Oberhausen) and BKK Ruhrgebiet (Bochum). The resulting cash register is called BKK on site and is based in Bochum.

The approximately 500 employees of BKK Aktiv looked after over 300,000 insured persons - of which approx. 200,000 paying members (as of January 2008).

Finances

In 2007, BKK Aktiv spent around 602 million euros on the medical treatment of its customers. Together with other expenses, the total expenses amounted to around 739.3 million euros. Income of EUR 746.1 million was achieved. The 2007 annual accounts show a surplus of almost EUR 6.8 million. The cost of services in 2007 was 2,893.39 euros per member.

In 2007, the BKK Aktiv had to provide around 91.9 million euros as part of financial equalization in favor of funds with structural disadvantages.

particularities

A special feature of BKK Aktiv was the clinic network in Turkey : the health insurance company had concluded cooperation agreements with more than 100 clinics in Turkey for outpatient and inpatient acute medical care for its customers. In the case of a non-permanent stay in Turkey, the insured could take advantage of the same benefits as in Germany by presenting their identity card and health insurance card.

BKK Aktiv was certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2000 .
