BLU-119

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BLU-119, also known as the CrashPAD, is an unguided bomb used by the United States Armed Forces, weighing approximately one ton. It was specifically designed to destroy chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction production facilities and storage facilities without contaminating the environment. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency completed the development within nine months so that it could still be used during Operation Iraqi Freedom . This made it (DTRA) the first specialized weapon of its kind. Outwardly it is identical to the Mk. 84 , as it uses the empty bomb body of this. In the Mk. 84 body, in addition to the detonator, a 65 kg warhead with the explosive PBX-109 and an approximately 190 kg container with an antidote (Agent Defeat) are used.
