Lists on the subject

The BLU-122 (also BLU-122 / B , with steering set: GBU-28C / B) is a bunkering warhead with a weight of around 2 tons.

description

The BLU-122 is a comprehensive further development of the tried and tested BLU-113 bomb body. No information is available on exact details, but the following increases in performance were achieved in tests:

  • over 20% greater penetration depth
  • Boost the explosion by 70%
  • 30% higher reliability
  • Can threaten 54% more targets than the BLU-113

There were problems during the test phase mainly with the available detonators, which is why extensive modifications had to be made here. In May 2005, after the tests were over , General Dynamics received an order for approximately $ 5.2 million to produce the first 71 bombs. These were then delivered to the United States Air Force .
