Consolea nashii is a species of plant in the genus Consolea fromthe cactus family (Cactaceae). The specific epithet nashii honors the American botanist George Valentine Nash (1864–1921).
description
Consolea nashii grows shrubby to tree-shaped and reaches heights of 1 to 2 meters. The trunk, which is circular in cross section, has a diameter of 5 to 12 centimeters and is thorny. The drive sections are variable. The blunt, gutted main sections are up to 1 meter and more long and 4 to 6 centimeters wide. Secondary or lateral drive sections are arranged opposite or alternating. They are elongated to linear, blunt, gutted and provided with a few humps, but not clearly networked. They are up to 30 centimeters long, up to 8 centimeters wide and 6 millimeters thick. The areoles are slightly raised, the very small glochids on them are brown. There are two to five slim ones, straight. spreading, piercing thorns present. They are light gray and 3 to 6 inches long.
The red flowers are up to 4 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Consolea nashii is common in the Bahamas and Cuba .
The first description as Opuntia nashii was in 1905 by Nathaniel Lord Britton . Alwin Berger placed them in the genus Consolea in 1926 . The following subspecies are distinguished:
- Consolea nashii subsp. nashii
- Consolea nashii subsp. gibarensis Areces
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The future development of the populations is unknown.
