BMX cruiser

BMX cruiser refers to a BMX bike that has 24 "rims instead of the usual 20" (inch) rims. The frame is also larger in this case, otherwise there would be no space for the larger wheels.

In race BMX there is a separate class for cruisers.

Cruisers are mostly driven by older drivers. For example, in the border area between Switzerland and Germany, there is the DSM (German-Swiss Championship), in which all drivers actually drive in the Gentlemen 26+ Cruiser category. Most BMX races have their own cruiser class. A cruiser differs from a BMX in that it has a longer wheelbase and larger wheels. The components are identical to the BMX bikes except for the wheels. Exception: the handlebars are usually only 5.75 "high, a larger 24" fork. A cruiser weighs between 10 and 14 kg, so it is no lighter than a normal MTB or enduro fully. Well-known frame / complete bike manufacturers are: Felt, wethepeople, S&M (CrMo-Temper frame) FreeAgent, Haro, Crupi, GT, One, Intense (Sniper before 2007, Sabot from 2008).

BMX cruisers are less common than BMX race bikes for the above reason. Due to the larger wheels and the longer frame, the cruiser is not quite as agile as a 20 "BMX and is therefore a bit sluggish to ride. The riding technique with a cruiser differs little from that of a 20" BMX bike. However, it cannot be lifted so well ( bunny hopp ) because the driver touches down earlier with the larger rear wheel. The cruiser classes have been open to 26 "inches (i.e. mountain bikes) for a long time.
