BODE index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BODE index , also BODE score, short for " b ody-mass index, airflow o bstruction, d yspnea and e xercise capacity index in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" , is a multidimensional 10-point scale in which higher Result associated with a higher risk of death in the context of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease . The index was first published by the Celli working group in 2004. Four easily determinable parameters are included in the determination:

The background to the selection of these four parameters is that the one-second capacity shows an easily measurable impairment of lung function, the subjectively perceived shortness of breath reflects the experience of the patient himself and the other two parameters show the effects of the systemic disease COPD on the whole organism (weight change, performance). With the combination of these four different aspects, an attempt is made to satisfy a holistic view of the clinical picture.

Determination of the BODE index: 0 (FEV1> 64), 1 (FEV1 50-64), 2 (FEV1 36-49) or 3 (FEV1> 34) points on the BODE scale are assigned for the parameter FEV1 -Minute walking test 0 (> 350 m), 1 (250–349 m), 2 (150–249 m) or 3 (<150 m) and for dyspnea (according to the Medical Research Council Score ) 0 (MRC 0– 1), 1 (MRC 2), 2 (MRC 3) or 3 (MRC 4) and for the body mass index 0 (BMI> 21 kg / m²) or 2 (BMI <22 kg / m²).

A further development of the index was made in 2009 by Puhan et al. released.
