6-minute walk test
The 6-minute walk test (also: Six-minute walk test ; English six-minute walk test , 6-MWT) is a diagnostic agent in the cardiology and pneumology to the performance of a patient below the anaerobic threshold estimate, and in the course of control to be able to. It is mainly used in severe heart failure , patients with pulmonary hypertension and lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also used to control the success of a transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH) in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).
execution
The patient walks for six minutes on level ground, on a circuit or in a hallway of at least 30 m, as changes in direction can falsify the result between individuals. The pace is set by the patient himself with the aim of going as far as possible according to his own performance. Breaks and changes in tempo are allowed during this time. If the course is not standardized, the patient is accompanied by a person who measures the distance covered.
The test can be expanded by measuring blood pressure , pulse and oxygen saturation or as part of a blood gas analysis as well as by determining lactate before the start and at the end of the test.
evaluation
A nomogram can be used to determine performance compared to the normal healthy population . The normal value for a healthy person is - depending on the level of training, body weight, age and gender - at 700–800 m, max. 1000 m; Very well trained people rarely manage distances of more than 1000 meters. The following formula can be used to precisely determine the target performance of a healthy person:
- Men:
- Women:
To check the success of the therapy, the values before and after the start of therapy are compared.
