BRM P180

The BRM P180 , also known as the BRM P180 , was a Formula 1 racing car , built in 1972 by the British Formula 1 team British Racing Motors .

The BRM P180 was the last Tony Southgate- designed racing car for the British Formula 1 team and a complete failure. The car had a similar low monocoque as the P160 , with cooling in the rear, along the transmission. Southgate was so focused on saving weight that one man could easily lift the front of the car on his own that the handling of the car suffered massively. Despite intensive test work, the car could never be made really competitive. The team therefore resorted to the P160E to contest most of the Grand Prix races of the year. The P180 made its debut at the Spanish Grand Prix in 1972 and was used in five world championship races without scoring any points. In autumn 1972 he ran unsuccessfully in a national Formula 1 race without world championship status in Great Britain and was then finally withdrawn.
