BS 25999

The BS 25999 standard is a British standard on business continuity management ( english Business Continuity Management ). It is subdivided into a “Code of Practice” and a “Specification” part, with the first part of BS 25999-1: 2006 first published in December 2006. The part “Specification” BS 25999-2: 2007 was published at the end of 2007 and enables certification according to the standard.

History of the standard

The predecessor was the PAS56 (Public Available Standard). The standard was developed by practitioners worldwide in order to provide a systematic approach to the implementation of business continuity management based on a life cycle.

Comparable national and international standards

In Germany, an equivalent standard BSI 100-4 is available from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as part of the basic IT protection . A comparable international standard within the ISO series is the ISO 22301 standard , as well as some approaches in the existing ISO 27001 standard .
