As Backpack rappers or backpackers ( English backpack "backpack") is referred to within the hip-hop scene rapper , mainly engaged in underground work and the commercialization of hip-hop reject -music.

Backpack rappers (partly also the German synonym backpack rappers ) got their name from the fact that they are usually present with a thick backpack (e.g. on jams ).
They are hip-hop musicians who reject mainstream and commercialism . They distance themselves from gangsta rap and try not to get involved in every new fashion. Most backpack rappers move in a small scene with like-minded people, which is clearly different from the subculture of the hip-hop scene. The lyrics often have critical and political texts (Conscious Rap) and take up current issues. In this respect, there are numerous similarities with tick rap , the (self) designation of the left-wing political rap scene. Many backpack rappers are underground rappers and don't aspire to a career in the music industry.
prejudices
Backpack rappers are less respected within one area of the rap scene. The accusation is that they come from the upper middle or upper class and therefore do not know what is happening in real life. However, the same argument is also taken up by backpack rappers against the commercialized hip-hop scene. Pejorative they are also called students rapper called, and give them the street credibility denied.
Within the hip-hop scene there is tension, sometimes aggressive, between backpackers and the more commercial representatives of the music genre. The texts of numerous artists contain lines of criticism of the other part of the genre.
