from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim is the concert and opera orchestra at the Pforzheim City Theater .

history

The Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim was founded in 1930 by 50 musicians who had lost their jobs due to the global economic crisis as the “Pforzheim Symphony Orchestra” and was initially financed by radio recordings for the Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart and through engagements as a spa orchestra in various spa and bathing towns in the northern Black Forest region.

In 1940 the orchestra passed into municipal hands and was given the title “Städtisches Orchester Pforzheim”. Since then it has been located at the Pforzheim City Theater . There the orchestra is present in all opera and operetta productions of the house as well as in a large part of the musical and ballet productions. Since 1959, the orchestra has also accompanied the performances of the Pforzheim opera ensemble as part of the “City Opera Southwest” during its guest performances in numerous cities in Baden-Württemberg without their own theater. The orchestra has its own series of concerts in the town hall of Pforzheim.

On October 18, 2009 the orchestra was renamed "Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim". With only 42 permanent positions, the Badische Philharmonie is one of the smallest professional orchestras in Germany.

General music director was Markus Huber from 2008 to 2019 . In 2019 Florian Erdl took over the management of the orchestra on a provisional basis.
